Fairborn, Ohio- The UIC baseball team suffered a 12-5 loss to Wright State in the first game of a doubleheader at Nischwitz Stadium on Saturday.
The Flames (12-8, 3-1) suffered their first Horizon League loss of the season and saw their eight-game winning streak snapped.
Rafael Garcia drove in two of UIC's runs with RBI singles. Tony Altavilla, Andy Leonard and Brett Schaefer also had RBI hits.
Starter Grant Kohlstaedt could not escape a third inning in which he was charged with four runs. He was removed after 2.1 innings, allowing six runs and four walks.
The Raiders (7-11, 2-1) scored at least one run in the game's first five innings, breaking open a 2-1 game in the bottom of the third by sending nine hitters to the dish and producing four runs.
Schaefer extended his hitting streak to nine games after a 2-for-4 showing in the twinbill opener.
UIC finished the game with 14 hits but stranded 13 runners on base.
