Clearwater, Fla. - The UIC softball team ended the weekend on a high note with a 2-0 triumph over East Tennessee State on Sunday afternoon in the USF Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Florida.
Sarah Clynes notched her second home run of the season, while Brittany Dixon picked up her first in 2008.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning with Dixon drilled a solo home run. Clynes then stepped up to the plate and gave UIC (5-14) a 2-0 lead with another homer.
Clynes fanned four batters and allowed only three hits in 7.0 innings pitched. The junior pitcher moves to 3-8 in the circle with her first shutout of the season.
The Flames face Bucknell, UC-Santa Barbara and Loyola Marymount in the LMU Tournament, March 14-16, in Los Angeles, California.
