CHICAGO - Freshman pitcher/outfielder Ashley Hewett was named the Horizon League player of the week for the period ending March 23, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Hewett opened up league play with a .556 average against Butler over the weekend in the Flames Field home opener, going 5-for-9 with a pair of home runs, four RBI and two runs scored in the series sweep of the Bulldogs.
The La Palma, Calif. native now leads the Flames with an overall average of .333 with 17 hits, 11 RBI, 6 runs and a trio of home runs in 19 games as a freshman.
The league honor is the first of Hewett's career and marks the first Flame to receive weekly accolades this season.
