CHICAGO - UIC softball pitcher/outfielder Sarah Clynes was named the Horizon League Player of the Week for the period ending April 13, the league office announced on Monday.
The Florissant, Mo. native went 10-for-16 for a .625 average last week between Northern Illinois in a doubleheader on Wednesday and a three-game series against Detroit on Friday and Saturday.
The senior drove in five runs against the Huskies and the Titans, including a walk-off RBI double (her fourth of the week) in the 10th inning of game two to defeat Detroit 5-4 for the series sweep on Saturday. Clynes also hit her fourth homer of the year and first triple of the season against the Titans.
Clynes currently leads the Horizon League in league batting average (.519), doubles (7), slugging percentage (.963) and on base percentage (.588).
The award is the first of her senior season and the sixth of Clynes' career.
UIC takes to the road for a three game series at Green Bay, starting with a doubleheader on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
