CHICAGO - UIC softball freshman Ashley Hewett was named the Horizon League pitcher of the week, for the period ending April 19, the league office announced on Monday.

The La Palma, Calif. native earned a pair of complete-game victories over Green Bay as UIC (18-20, 10-1 Horizon) swept the Phoenix on April 15 and 16.

Hewett gave up one run and five hits while striking out eight in the Flames' 7-1 doubleheader opener on Wednesday, and came back on Thursday to fan a career-best 12 batters in the 2-1 victory to sweep the series.

She currently ranks fourth in league play with a 1.68 ERA behind a 5-0 record and 48 strikeouts.

This is Hewett's second league honor of the season after being named the top player in the league on March 24 after opening conference play against Butler going 5-for-9 and two home runs.

The Flames step out of league play for a single contest at DePaul tomorrow at 4 p.m.
