CHICAGO - UIC softball shortstop Brooke Frydendall was named the Horizon League player of the week for the period ending April 26, the league office announced on Monday.
The Corona, Calif. native batted .429 last week against league foes Loyola and Cleveland State last week, driving in five RBI and scoring six runs as the Flames took two of three from both opponents.
Frydendall went 3-for-4 against Cleveland State on Sunday, a pivotal win for the Flames who remain atop the league standings entering the final week of regular season play.
The junior ranks second in league batting average with a .421, behind teammate Sarah Clynes (.443) and ahead of Ashley Hewett (.420).
The Flames close out their home season with a 6 p.m. contest against crosstown rival DePaul on Wednesday before heading to Ohio for a weekend series at Wright State, starting with a Saturday doubleheader at noon.
