PENDLETON, Ind. - The UIC softball team will open the2009 Horizon League Softball Tournament this afternoon against the seventh-seeded Phoenix of Green Bay this afternoon at 3 p.m. CST.
The top seeded Flames (24-24) received a first-round bye, while Green Bay (19-23) put up a furious comeback in their first round game this morning, posting six runs in the seventh to overtake sixth-seeded Valparaiso, 7-4 to advance to this afternoon.
Ashley Hewett, a member of the All-League First Team announced last night at the postseason banquet, will take to the circle against the Phoenix, who upon last meeting, fanned 12 batters when the two teams last met on April 16.
