Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score
CHICAGO - The UIC baseball team rebounded from a 5-4 loss to Wright State in the opener of a Horizon League doubleheader on Saturday to double up the Raiders, 12-6.
UIC moved to 13-22 overall on the season, while the Wright State moved to 19-16.
The Raiders held on to the top spot in the Horizon League with a 9-4 mark, while UIC moved to 8-6 in conference play.
GAME 2 - UIC 12, Wright State 6
The Flames sent 15 men to the plate and tagged Wright State starter and Chicago native Max Friedman for nine runs in the opening frame en route to a 12-6 victory in game two of a doubleheader at Les Miller Field.
Jason Ganek scored the first run of the game for UIC when he crossed the plate on Chris Rutta's RBI single.
Nathan Orf, who caught both games of the twin-bill, scored the second Flames tally when Friedman balked with the bases loaded.
Freshman Ryan Boss made the most of his opportunity to play in the second game by delivering a two-run double that scored Matt Serna and Rutta.
Later in the inning, Andy Leonard doubled down the left field line to knock in Ty Rubio.
When all was said and done at the end of the first, the Flames touched the plate nine times and never looked back.
Rubio also made the most of his opportunity to play, collecting four hits while reaching base five times. He also stole two bases in the ballgame.
Rafael Garcia earned his third win this season for UIC. The converted infielder scattered four hits over 3.0 IP, allowing just one run.
Joey Begel and Brad Riegler combined to throw the final six innings for the Flames to finish the contest.
GAME 1 - Wright State 5, UIC 4
John Rosinski legged out a two-run triple and Michael Heesch was solid through 7.2 IP, but that wasn't enough as UIC lost a second straight game by a score of 5-4.
Rosinski's three-bagger, his fifth of the season, scored Orf and Rutta and punctuated a three-run fourth inning for the Flames which tied the game up at three.
An inning later, UIC grabbed the 4-3 lead when Tristan Moore had trouble handling a fly ball of the bat of Rutta which allowed Steve McGuiggan to score.
The Raiders grabbed one more in the seventh to even things up. Heesch was lifted for reliever Matt Salemi with the bases juiced, but the sophomore right-hander's first pitch hit Gerald Ogrinc, allowing Quentin Cate to score the go-ahead run.
Rosinski singled with one away in the bottom of the frame, but was caught stealing trying to get himself into scoring position. That was the only rally the Flames could muster.
UIC will be back in action tomorrow when they head to nearby Valparaiso, Ind. to take on the Crusaders in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
