Men's & Women's Swim Teams Defeat Eastern Illinois

CHARLESTON, Ill. - The UIC men's and women's swim teams swept Eastern Illinois at the Padovan Pool on Saturday afternoon, increasing each squad's record to 2-0 on the season. This becomes the ninth season where the men and women have both defeated EIU.

"Overall, we were happy with how we performed today," head coach Paul Moniak said. "It's relatively early in the season and we are still working on our best line up."

With the men reaching a final score of 122-76 and the women combining for a 137-60 victory, both teams put up dominating performances to attain first place in 21-of-22 events.

The men's team was led in individual performances by Will Ikeda, Daniel Corley, Zach Van Swol, Gabe Cury, Jay Schackle and Vince Errichiello, each achieving first place finishes.

The three seniors each placed first in two events. Ikeda put up times of 1:48.67 in the 200 Free and 58.68 in the 100 Breast. Corley reached first in the 50 Free and 100 Free, with times of 21.78 and 47.67, respectively. Van Swol was a part of the first-place 200 Medley Relay team and topped opponents in the 100 Back with a time of 54.67 and won and set a pool record in the 500 Free with a time of 4:41.14.

On the women's side, Melanie Waszak, Sara Pardue, Monica Pinkus, Gisun Pak, Kelsey Millin, Alexandra Farrar and Andrea Longlade all took first-place honors.

Waszak was a part of the winning 200 Medley Relay team, setting a pool record with a final time of 1:50.04. Waszak also led the 200 Free with a final time of 1:56.86 and the 100 Fly, finishing at 58.38, another pool record.

Pardue began the day finishing first in the 1000 Free at 1:36.54. In the 500 Free, the lone first-place loss by UIC, the freshman finished in a close second with a time of 5:17.98.

The Flames return next weekend, when both squads host Milwaukee on Saturday, Nov. 5, with the women additionally facing Illinois, at 1 p.m.
