CHICAGO - UIC redshirt senior guard Briana Hinkle has been named to the 2011 Horizon League All-Defensive Team, the league office announced Sunday.
Hinkle recorded 84 steals through the regular season, tying Cleveland State's Shawnita Garland for the Horizon League lead with 2.9 per game. Entering play on Saturday, Hinkle and Garland ranked tied for 24th in the NCAA in that category.
The Bexley, Ohio native is joined on the All-Defensive Team by Garland and Green Bay's Celeste Hoewisch, who were named Co-Defensive Players of the Year, Detroit's Yar Shayok and Hoewisch's teammate in Green Bay, Kayla Tetschlag.
Tetschlag and Hoewisch were named Horizon League Co-Players of the Year.
Hinkle and the Flames will travel to Cleveland on Wednesday night to take on Garland and the Vikings in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Championship. UIC and Cleveland State split the regular season series with each team defending its home floor.
