CHICAGO- The UIC men's and women's Cross Country teams return by hosting the UIC Home Opener Saturday September 3rd at 10:00 a.m. (CT) at the Horse Trail Lake in Palos Heights, Ill.
The Flames men's team is entering the season with strong expectations after being ranked 13th in the Midwest region, announced earlier this week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Senior, Brian Denk (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) is set to lead the team after his third place finish at the Horizon League Championship last year. Other returnees include, John Glass (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook), Tyler Hinckley (Schaumburg, Ill/Conant), Sam Kehoe (LaGrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township), Roger Pinon (Chicago, Ill/Quigley Prep) and, Matt Zaluckyj (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South), all of whom are expected to make a statement for their senior year.
On the women's side, Maggie Banasik (Elk Grove, Ill./Elk Grove) will lead the pack as the only senior on the 2011 team. Looking back, UIC outran conference rivals Green Bay and Milwaukee at Horse Tail Lake last season. Six new freshmen will join the Flames for the 2011 season.
Competitors in the meet include Chicago State, UW-Green Bay, UW-Milwaukee, Loyola, DePaul, St. Xavier and, NIU (women).
DIRECTIONS TO HORSETAIL LAKE FOR THE UIC HOME OPENER Horsetail Lake is located just North of the corner of W 123rd St/McCarthy Road and S. 104th Ave in Palos Park, Ill.
To get to the race, take La Grange Road/Route 45 to 123rd St/McCarthy Road. Go West on 123rd St/McCarthy Road to the first stoplight, which will be 104th Avenue. Go North (Right) on 104th Avenue and the entrance to Horsetail Lake will be immediately on your right (East side of 104th Avenue).
Parking is available at Horsetail Lake or along the shoulder of 104th Avenue.
