Final Stats
CHICAGO - The UIC baseball team dropped a non-conference tilt against Bradley on Wednesday night at Les Miller Field by a final score of 9-4. Ryan Boss paced the Flames offensively, going 3-for-5 at the plate and solo home run in the ninth inning, but it was the efficient bats of the Braves that plagued UIC. Bradley recorded 14 hits compared to UIC's 11, while the Flames stranded 12 men on base. With the loss, UIC falls to 12-18 on the year and split the season series with Bradley 1-1, beating BU 3-1 back on March 21.
The Braves kicked things off with a lone run in the second inning and followed that up with two more in the top of the third, holding an early 3-0 lead. Bradley continued the assault in the fourth frame with four more scores, extending its advantage to 7-0.
The Flames kept battling and put up three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Boss and Jon Ryan began the frame with consecutive singles up the middle. Alex Jurich advanced Boss to third on a fly out and was sent home by Alex Grunenwald on a one-baser to the shortstop. Ryan scored the second run on a single from Joe Betcher which moved Grunenwald to third. Nick Addison posted a sacrifice fly to center field that plated Grunenwald, cutting Bradley's lead down to 7-3.
The Braves made the score 8-3 in the seventh inning on a solo homer down the right field line by the designated hitter Greg Partyka. Bradley finished its scoring onslaught in the top of the ninth frame with an insurance run on a fielder's choice RBI by Jason Leblebijian.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Boss did all he could to muster a rally with a solo shot to left field, his fifth on the year, but that score proved to be the game's last.
The Flames return to action on Friday as they travel to Horizon League-foe Butler for a three-game weekend series.
