CHICAGO - In their final non-conference game of the 2012 season, the UIC baseball team dropped a road contest at No. 14 Purdue on Wednesday evening by a final score of 11-4. The Flames drove in three runs in the fourth inning and narrowly trailed the nationally-ranked Boilermakers, 5-3, up until the bottom of the sixth frame when Purdue posted four scores to permanently distance themselves. With the loss, UIC falls to 16-29 overall and remains 9-14 in the Horizon League.

Jon Ryan was one the UIC highlights as he went 3-for-4 at the plate, including a two-run homer in the fourth inning and a double in the sixth, coming up a triple short of the cycle. Jacob McNamara and Joe Betcher were the other Flames' players to record multiple hits with two apiece.

After a 90-minute lightening delay just prior to the first pitch, the two teams finally took the field at 4:30 p.m. CT. Purdue got started early with a combined five unanswered runs after the first three innings.

The Flames responded with three runs in the top of the fourth frame as Betcher kicked things off with a single to left field. He was then driven home on a double down the left field line by Alex Grunenwald, his ninth two-bagger of the season. That's when Ryan cleared the bases with his fourth bomb of the year, cutting Purdue's lead down to 5-3.

The Boilermakers' two-run edge stayed frozen until the bottom of the sixth frame when they exploded for four runs off of a pair of two-RBI doubles.

UIC plated one more score in the seventh inning as McNamara slapped an RBI-single to right field that sent Alex De LaRosa home.

Purdue added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to seal the seven-run triumph.

The Flames return to action of Friday at 3 p.m. as they head to Horizon League-foe Valparaiso for a three-game series.
