Final Stats 
CHICAGO - In this first career start, freshman Ian Lewandowski held Western Illinois (6-16) scoreless through 8.2 innings as the UIC baseball team (12-11) won by a final of 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Les Miller Field. Lewandowski scattered eight hits and struck out four batters, improving his season ERA to 1.36 and his record to 2-1. Redshirt senior Ryan Shober notched his first collegiate home run in a two-run sixth inning for the Flames. Sophomore pitcher Alex Posey came in for the final out the game to record his third save of the year.
"I can't say enough about Ian's performance today," said head coach Mike Dee. "He kept battling and the guys behind him kept their composure all game. We're happy about winning the first two games of the series and hopefully we can get the sweep tomorrow."
After Shober went yard over the left field wall in the sixth inning, redshirt senior Alex Grunenwald drove in junior Jacob McNamara with a stand-up double to left field. Shober and redshirt junior Ryan Boss also recorded a doubles as UIC posted just five hits on the day. Junior John Coen was the lone Flame with a single.
UIC has now held the Leathernecks scoreless in 19 total innings so far this series and forced 14 WIU runners left on base.
With the series win already locked up, the Flames will look to extend their current five-game winning streak on Sunday with the sweep against WIU. That contest will begin at 12:05 p.m. CT as senior Joey Begel will make the start for UIC.
