Powell's Purdue Bio
CHICAGO - UIC head volleyball coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley recently announced that junior Bridget Powell, an Oak Lawn, Ill. native who spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons at Purdue, will join the Flames for the 2015 campaign. Powell will have two years of eligibility remaining.
A 5-foot-6 defensive specialist who graduated from Mother McAuley High School in 2012, Powell redshirted her freshman season at Purdue before appearing in six matches in 2013. She posted 15 digs and made good on 98 percent of her serve reception chances. Powell also saw action in the Boilermakers' NCAA First Round match against Central Arkansas.
While at Mother McAuley, Powell was a nationally-ranked libero and named to the AVCA Under Armour All-America watch list as a senior. Entering her senior campaign, Powell was listed as a Top 25 Defender by Prep Volleyball and ranked 35th in the POWERADE FAB 50 national rankings.
Powell was a three-time All-Area selection at Mother McAuley, picking up the honors each of her last three seasons. She helped the Mighty Macs win three straight conference titles and rank as high as No. 8 in the nation.
Powell led the state of Illinois in digs as a junior and was billed as one of the top sophomores in the nation in 2009. She played club volleyball for the First Alliance Club.
Powell joins incoming freshmen Ali Witt (Crystal Lake, Ill.) and Macy Geyer (Rockton, Ill.). The Flames received National Letters of Intent from Witt and Geyer in late November.
