MILLINGTON, Tenn. - The UIC baseball team (2-3-1) dropped a pair of heartbreaking one-run games on Saturday afternoon against SEC-member Missouri (9-1) by final scores of 3-2 and 2-1 at USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn. The series finale has been scheduled for 10 a.m. CT on Sunday morning.
"Both games were very competitive and I liked what I saw from our guys," said head coach Mike Dee. "I think both Ian (Lewandowski) and Jake (Dahlberg) did a great job on the mound and made big pitches when they needed to."
Game One Recap: MU 3, UIC 2
Junior Ian Lewandowski received the series-opening start and tossed a complete game with 8.1 innings of work. He was credited with the loss, but gave up a mere four hits and three earned runs. The Naperville, Ill. native tied a career-high with six strikeouts and allowed just one free pass all game.
After two scoreless innings, Missouri plated two runs in the bottom of the third. The Tigers strung together three straight hits, including back-to-back doubles in the frame.
The Flames countered with two runs in the sixth inning as redshirt senior Zenon Kolakowski was walked and then moved to second after senior Carl Sugihara reached base off an error. Senior Tyler Detmer ripped a double down the right field line to plate Kolakowski as Sugiahara advanced to third, but was called out on the play. Senior Jeff Boehm eventually sent Detmer across the dish with an RBI-single to right field, which knotted the score at 2-2. Bohem now has 14 RBI on the season in just six games.
No hits were recorded for either team until the bottom of the ninth inning when Missouri's John Lester ended the game with a walk-off homerun.

After Missouri scored two runs in the first inning, Dahlberg held the Tigers scoreless and yielded only five hits throughout the remainder of the game.
Sophomore Mickey McDonald was responsible for UIC's lone run with a solo moonshot in the eighth inning, his first this season and third of his career.

McDonald and Lee now have very similar season stat lines with 13 total bases, 10 hits, seven RBI and batting and slugging percentages of .400 and .520.
