MILLINGTON, Tenn. - The UIC baseball team (2-4-1) fell in the series finale against SEC-member Missouri (10-1) on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 10-1 at USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn. The Flames had a 1-0 lead after two-and-a-half innings, but Mizzou plated 10 unanswered runs to complete the weekend sweep. The Tigers are off to their best start since 1985.
Senior Tyler Detmer gave UIC its early 1-0 advantage after he poked an RBI-single through the left side to score redshirt senior Zenon Kolakowski. The Flames left a pair of runners stranded on first and second as sophomore Mickey McDonald flied out to left field to end the frame.
Missouri sophomore Jake Ring kicked off a three-run third inning for the Tigers with a solo homer to right field, the first round-tripper of his career. Mizzou scored a lone run in the seventh frame and then exploded for six more in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
Senior Jeff Boehm tallied his second double of the season in the final inning, which upped his season slugging percentage to .913.
Redshirt junior Conor Philbin went 2-for-4 from the plate as he hit a team-best .333 for the series.
Junior Jack Andersen (1-1) was credited with the loss after lasting five innings and giving up five hits and two earned runs.
Mizzou's Peter Fairbanks pitched a stellar game through his 7.1 innings of work, giving up a mere four hits and zero earned runs. He fanned eight UIC batters and did not allow a free pass.
