CHICAGO -- The UIC softball team (10-13) will head to Rogers Park on Wednesday for a non-conference contest against Loyola (10-18) at the Loyola Softball Park. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. CT.
The Flames last competed on March 24 in a doubleheader at IUPUI, where UIC took game one, 3-2, before falling, 6-4, to the Jaguars. Eleni Polites (.600) and Amanda Mener (.500) each had three hits during competition, with Polites grabbing a pair of RBI. Lindsay Melson earned her first win of the season and Bridget Boyle collected the save.
Through 23 games this season, Polites boasts a .408 batting average to lead UIC, followed by Taylor Cairns (.303). Tiana Mack-Miller (.288) owns the most hits (21) and doubles (7), while Paige Peterson (.290) tops home runs (2), RBI (13) and runs (11).
Boyle (3.37 ERA) and Elaine Heflin (3.64 ERA) have each made nine starts with 14 appearances while producing respective records of 3-4 and 2-7. Heflin has tallied the most innings (57.2), strikeouts (34) and complete games (5). Melson made her first appearance of the season against IUPUI and went 1.1 innings. Collectively, the pitching staff has held their opponents to a .252 batting average while striking out 94.
Loyola returns home having lost its last six games, with series losses in Missouri Valley play to Northern Iowa and Bradley. The Ramblers two wins since the tournament season have come against Evansville with 16-5 and 10-1 (6) defeats.
Among those who have played more than half of the 28 games, Brooke Wyderski (.314) is the lone player hitting above .300 and leads Loyola in hits (27), home runs (4) and RBI (18), while she has also contributed six doubles and five stolen bases. The Ramblers are hitting .251 and have 35 doubles, three triples and 14 home runs.
Madison Hope (3.74 ERA) and Ashley Rogers (4.77 ERA) have shared the starts for Loyola, combining for 15 complete games and allowing the opposition to produce a .278 batting average. Hope, 5-8, has gone 84.1 innings with 58 strikeouts, while Rogers, 5-10, is nearing 100 innings at 95.1 and has struck out 43.
The Flames hold a 67-24 series advantage over the Ramblers, while Loyola came away with the win last season as the teams competed at the Total Control Sports Invitational.
