Donate to FLAMEingo Drive
CHICAGO - The UIC softball team will be decked out in pink this Saturday for its doubleheader against Youngstown State at Flames Field. The Flames look to shine a light on the importance of breast cancer awareness as the day will serve as Lori Macias Day to honor alum Melinda Macias' mother. The first 150 students in attendance will receive a pink t-shirt.
UIC will additionally be accepting donations at the field for its FLAMEingo Drive, an initiative started by the 2013 senior class to support breast cancer research. The Flames have been working diligently to expand on the roughly $5,500 that has been donated to the American Cancer Society since FLAMEingo's inception.
Last weekend, senior Erica Hampton cut off 10 inches of her hair, in conjunction with raising funds, to donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, which provides real-hair wigs for women with cancer through the American Cancer Society's wig banks.
