ROCHESTER, Mich. - The No. 2 UIC softball team (24-21) played into a 1-0 result for the second-straight game but came out on the losing side against No. 1 Oakland (26-22) on Friday at the Oakland Softball Field. The Flames will face No. 3 Wright State at 2:30 p.m. CT.

Elaine Heflin struck out a career-high nine batters while dealing her 16th complete game. She gave up six hits and did not earn the run scored as the Golden Grizzlies left a total of five runners on base.

In the first inning with two outs and a runner at first, Oakland's Sara Cupp singled and the runner reached third before scoring on a UIC throwing error.

The only chances for the Flames came in the fourth, as Laura Swan had the lone hit for UIC with her ninth double of the season, and in the seventh, with Swan drawing a leadoff walk and making her way to third but was left on base.
