Each sport will be featured over eight weeks as we preview the upcoming year in UIC Athletics. In this installment of 'Top 25 Flames for 2015-16', we feature softball's starting third baseman
Tiana Mack-Miller. The sophomore was honored as the Horizon League Freshman of the Year in addition to placing on the All-League First Team, All-Freshman Team and NFCA All-Great Lakes Region Second Team in 2015.
Mack-Miller started all 46 games at third base and led the Flames offensively to end the season with a team-high .371 batting average, 53 hits, 15 doubles, four home runs and 30 RBI, as well as .573 slugging and .442 on-base percentages. Her batting average was the best for a freshman since 1999, and her doubles were the most for a player in a single season since 2005.
She closed out the year by placing in the top 10 in the Horizon League in batting average, hits and doubles. She additionally appeared in the national rankings after she averaged .35 doubles per game to place 25th among active players.
The San Diego, Calif., native aided in UIC's 14th Horizon League Regular Season Championship as the Flames went 14-6 during conference play. Mack-Miller batted .452 against league opponents and collected 28 hits, eight doubles and 22 RBI.
On the year, Mack-Miller owned 15 multi-hit games, including a two home run outing against Valparaiso on April 11, and produced nine multi-RBI games.
