CHICAGO - The Flames won in dramatic fashion with a 7-6 walk-off victory over Roosevelt University on Wednesday at Curtis Granderson Stadium. Derrick Patrick laid down an RBI bunt single to score the winning run in the ninth inning.

Roosevelt held the Flames at bay as UIC battled from behind the entire game. The Flames struggled at the plate and did not record a hit until Brandon Gibis singled with two out in the fourth inning. Roosevelt took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning before UIC struck for three runs on RBI singles from Joe Rossi (2-5, RBI, 2 runs) and Gabe Dwyer (1-3, RBI) and a sac fly RBI off the bat of Ricardo Ramirez.

UIC tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth when pinch hitter Alex Dee singled to right field driving in Tommy Field from second base. The Flames had an opportunity to put the game away in the eighth inning but Derrick Patrick was picked off at third base to end the rally. Roosevelt responded in the top of the ninth inning scoring twice to take a 6-4 lead.

With one out in the ninth inning David Cronin drew a walk and Joe Rossi single to right field. Ricardo Ramirez (1-4, three RBI) laced a triple to the gap in right center field to score Cronin and Rossi tying the game at 6-6. It was Ramirez sixth game with two or more RBI this season. After an intentional walk to Gabe Dwyer, Derrick Patrick stepped to the plate with runners on first and third. Patrick dropped a perfect bunt down the third base line scoring Ramirez for the walk-off win and first victory in nine attempts for the Flames when trailing after eight innings. Brandon Gibis (1-0) earned his first collegiate win in relief.

The Flames return to the diamond on Friday afternoon to open Horizon League action with a three-game weekend series against the Oakland Grizzlies at 3:05 pm CT in Curtis Granderson Stadium. UIC will send right-hander Ian Lewandowski (2-0, 3.91) to the mound.
