UIC's men's and women's swimming and diving teams each earned a Horizon League win over Milwaukee in dual meet action at Flames Natatorium Saturday.
Cydney Liebenberg qualified for the NCAA Zone C meet in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Six other Flames won multiple individual events.
"Milwaukee is always a great rivalry for us and this year's meet didn't disappoint," head coach
Tim Loeffler said. "Our team came together today and fought the entire meet. It's great to see our underclassmen step up today." Freshmen posted five total individual wins, and sophomores added six more.
Team Results
- The men's team outscored the Panthers, 178-122.
- They moved above .500 with a season record of 3-2.
- UIC's women earned a 168-132 victory.
- The women are 5-2 this season.
Individual Highlights – Men
- Andrew Lewarchick started the meet with a win in the 3-meter dive, scoring 311.10 and outpacing the second place finisher from Milwaukee by 10 points. Later in the meet, he posted another win on the 1-meter board with a mark of 279.75.
- The Flames triumphed in the 400 medley relay. Daniel Sivak, Eric Sgarbossa, Max Pohl, and Nathan Bosse were on the winning team.
- Hunter Crook and Tanner Alms went 1-2 in the 1000 free. They also were the first two to finish in the 500 free. Both swimmers set season-low times in both events.
- Jacob Cunningham and Bosse were the top two finishers in the 200 free.
- Michael Tegeler and Daniel Sivak took the top two spots in the 100 back. Tegeler also won the 200 back. He set personal bests for the season in both events, turning in a time of :51.25 in the 100 and finishing the 20 in 1:50.95.
- Luke Hutchinson won the 200 fly, turning a season-best time of 1:54.11.
- Pohl's time of :21.31, his fastest of the year, won the 50 free.
- Sivak won the 200 IM.
- Bosse, Alms, Cunningham, and Pohl failed to win the 400 free relay for the first time in three meets this season. They were clipped by Milwaukee's A team by just five hundredths of a second.
Individual Highlights – Women
- Cydney Liebenberg continued to lead the diving team. She won the 1-meter event, scoring 284.33 and clearing the field by more than 50 points. Her margin of victory in the 3-meter dive was even greater, as she posted a 301.80. Both scores were easily above the NCAA Zone qualifying standards.
- Brie Hines dominated the field in the 1000 free, winning in 10:12.71. She won the 200 fly and the 500 free as well.
- Lexie Joy won the 200 free, the 100 free, and 200 IM. Her times in all three events were season bests.
- Sophia Shalabi was the winner in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke events, setting her season best times of 1:05.25 and 2:22.43, respectively.
- Abby Kunze and Hannah Olsen went 2-3 in the 200 back.
- Marisa Savegnago won the 100 fly, followed closely by Annette Lesnicki.
- Misha Neal, Hines, Shalabi, and Joy finished the meet with a win in the 400 free relay.

- Another Horizon League dual awaits the squad next week.
- The team will travel to Oakland to swim against the defending Horizon League champions.
- The meet will start at 5:30 pm Friday, November 10.
- "Now we have two tough weeks ahead we need to put our focus on," Loeffler said, referencing the Oakland meet and the TYR Invitational the following weekend. "These will be our last tests until January."
