CHICAGO -- Last month UICFlames.com conducted a series called "Exit Interview" that profiled the program's standouts who were headed to join the professional ranks following the 2017 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. This special edition features the 2016 Horizon League Relief Pitcher of the Year
Trevor Lane.
Lane was selected by the New York Yankees in the 10
th round of the 2016 MLB Draft. After spending time with the Gulf Coast League Yankees and the Staten Island Yankees last summer, the North Bend, Wash., native began the 2017 campaign with the Charleston RiverDogs of the South Atlantic League (SAL). Lane earned a spot in the SAL All-Star Game in June, and thanks to an earned-run average of 0.79 in 24 appearances out of the bullpen, he was promoted to Class High A Tampa over the weekend. The left-handed pitcher registered a record of 4-2 with two saves in relief. He struck out 49 for the RiverDogs in 45.1 innings of work and opponents batted only .184 against him.
Prior to moving down the coast and up the ranks from South Carolina to Florida, Lane caught up with UICFlames.com via FaceTime. He discussed his time in Chicago and at UIC, what has helped him be successful in Minor League Baseball, and even left some advice for current and future Flames. Here is Lane's full Exit Interview:
