The stretch run continues in earnest for UIC, which will host its final home meet of the season Sunday at Credit Union 1 Arena. The Flames will take on ECAC rival William & Mary in the first of three meets in March, leading to the ECAC Championships on April 6.
The Flames will seek to build on their highest score of the season, 362.600, achieved in their last meet two weeks ago at Nebraska. That was the team's first meet under the five up/five count lineup, in effect for the rest of the season. With no margin for error UIC still posted season highs as a team in four of the six events.
Wes Diveney, the only senior on the team, will be honored during the traditional Senior Day activities. The meet will begin at 2:00 pm.
Through the Rotations
- Diveney is the Flames' leader on rings with a 12.300 average. His season high of 13.200 is four tenths higher than any other Flame has achieved.
- Xan Weaver has the team's highest average on parallel bars, a 12.250 that was boosted by a score of 12.600 last time out. Colin Schwartz is just a half-tenth behind.
- Paul Burney has had UIC's highest score on high bar in three of the five meets this year. His average of 11.600 is tops on the team.
- Sam Montague and Kaleb Booth, who have both been honored this year by the ECAC in its weekly awards, have averages of 12.830 and 12.760, respectively, on floor.
- Booth is one of three Flames with a vault average over 13. His season high, 14.250, is the only score by a Flame this season higher than 14.
- Vault and floor have been the team's strengths. The highest team score in each meet has been on vault, and floor has provided the second highest score four of five times.
Last Time Out
- Improvement was evident from start to finish in the Flames' last meet. Notably, they came the closest to Big Ten power Minnesota in three matchups this year.
- Individual season highs abounded, as no less than 10 gymnasts had at least one top score.
- Montague set a career high on floor. Orion Wells made his Flames debut and contributed to the season-high rings total.
- The team had its best score of the campaign on floor, vault, and high bar in addition to rings.
Scouting the Tribe
- William & Mary had season highs on floor and parallel bars in its loss to Navy last week.
- Andrew Lyubovsky was named ECAC Rookie of the Week after winning p-bars and high bar.
- Jacopo Gliozzi was named a finalist for the Nissen-Emery award, the highest honor in collegiate gymnastics. He has the ECAC's highest average and highest single score (15.300) on pommel horse.
- This will be W&M's first meet outside the Eastern time zone all season.
