CHICAGO -- UIC will continue its five-game road trip and hop back into Horizon League play with an important three-game series at Wright State that begins on Friday, April 26. The Flames begin the weekend with a half-game lead over the Raiders atop the conference standings as the second half of the League slate continues.
UIC (18-16, 11-6 Horizon League) won the opener the last time that the two teams got together at Granderson Stadium in March.
Jacob Key was magnificent on the mound for the Flames as he limited Wright State (29-13, 11-7 Horizon League) and its high-powered offense to a single unearned run in the first inning and three hits over 8.2 innings as UIC went on to win 6-1.
David Becker drove in a pair of runs in the win and
Scott Ota had three hits on the day he launched his current 19-game hitting streak.
The Raiders responded and won both games of a doubleheader the following day, outscoring the Flames 17-4 in the process.
Wright State is tough to top at Nischwitz Stadium and it owns a record of 16-3 at home this spring. In Horizon League home games, the Raiders are 7-2 with losses coming against Milwaukee (March 15) and Youngstown State (March 30).
Key is slated to start the series opener for UIC on Friday night in a game that will be available on ESPN+.
Joey Fredrickson is scheduled to take the ball for the Flames in game two. That game will also stream on ESPN+. Head coach
Mike Dee has not yet named a starting pitcher for Sunday's series finale.
