CHICAGO – After recording the highest semester GPA in school history, UIC has placed 83 student-athletes on the Spring 2020 Horizon League Academic Honor Roll, the conference office announced on Friday, July 24.

The Flames combined for a record-breaking 3.55 departmental GPA in the spring semester, despite unexpected hurdles from the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the 12th-consecutive semester in which UIC has posted a department GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Across the Horizon League, 1,064 student-athletes achieved academic honor roll distinctions for the spring of 2020 semester with all ten members and 19 Horizon League sponsored sports represented.

UIC's Baseball and men's swimming and diving teams led the way with 11 honorees each, followed by the softball and women's swimming and diving teams with eight. The men's tennis squad took home seven honorees, while men's soccer, women's soccer, men's track and field and field/cross country and volleyball each had six. Women's track and field/cross country had five honorees, followed by women's tennis with four, women's golf with three and women's basketball with one honoree.

Candidates for the Honor Roll must meet three criteria in order to qualify:
1) participation in at least one of the League's 19 sports during the most recent (or current) season.
2) completion of three semesters (or four quarters, where applicable) as a full-time student at the same member institution.
3) a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).
