Men's Tennis Drops Close Match to Northern Illinois Wednesday

Flames Will Battle Big Ten Foe Northwestern Sunday

DEKALB, ILL. – The UIC men's tennis team opened a two-match week Wednesday with a trip to Northern Illinois for a mid-week match. A tight match in its entirety, the Flames fell by a final score of 4-3.
 
DOUBLES
  • Miroslav Cvjetan and Jai Vallurupalli played a tight match in the number one doubles slot, but fell 6-3 to NIU's number one pairing.
  • Aleksa Bucan and Ammar Wazir were the next to finish in the number three slot, dropping a 6-1 decision to seal the doubles point for the Huskies.
 
SINGLES
  • Bucan would bounce back from his doubles defeat as the number one single for UIC, defeating NIU's Cheng En Tsai 6-4, 7-6.
  • Cvjetan also played a tight match in the number four singles slot, defeating Armin Koschtojan 6-3, 6-4.
  • Luiz Dos Santos filled in at the number six spot, and earned a three-set win over Guy Dagan 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.
 
The Flames will be back in action this weekend, as they close out the week against nearby foe Northwestern out of the Big Ten Conference. First serve from the Combe Tennis Center in Evanston, Ill. is set for 5:30 p.m. CT.
