CHICAGO – The UIC men's tennis team (8-13, 3-2 Southland) ended up on the wrong side of a close contest with DePaul (11-14, 2-4 Big East), eventually falling 3-4. The Flames came out victorious of the doubles competition, wining all of three sets over the Blue Demons.
DOUBLES
- On doubles court two, Aleksa Bucan and Pelle Strandberg set the tone for the Flames with a 6-2 victory over Sven Moser and Shourya Verma of DePaul.
- Â Gustavo Schwebel and Luiz Dos Santos secured the doubles point for UIC after defeating Elias Anwar and Jona Gitschel 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.
- Miroslav Cvjetan and Jai Vallurupalli played out their contest against Leon Huck and Pablo Torres Almeida at the No. 1 position. After a close first set, they won the tiebreaker, 10-8.
SINGLES
- Aleksa Bucan continues his winning streak at No. 2 singles after beating DePaul's Leon Huck 6-3, 6-1. He has won his last seven contests and has not experience a loss since Feb. 26.
- Kevin Kruzel dropped his match at No. 6 singles 5-7, 1-6.
- Gustavo Schwebel played a close match at No. 4 6-7, 5-7, falling in the tiebreaker.
- At No. 3, Miroslav Cvjetan played three sets, losing 4-6, 6-2, 2-6.
- DePaul stretched their lead after a win at No. 1 after Pelle Strandberg was outscored by his opponent 6-4, 3-6, 4-6.
- Ammar Wazir pulled out a victory for the Flames at No. 5. He dropped the first set 4-6, to win the second 7-6. He then lost the tiebreaker, but dominated the third set 10-6.
UP NEXT
The Flames will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to take on Xavier Saturday. They are set to play the Musketeers at 1 p.m. EDT at the Jim and Mary Brockhoff Family Tennis Facility.
