Women’s Basketball Embarks on Final MVC Road Trip of the Season Beginning in Illinois State Thursday Night.

Tip-off is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. (CT).

NORMAL, Ill. (Feb. 26, 2025) – The UIC women's basketball team (12-13, 9-7 MVC) hits the road for its final Missouri Valley Conference road trip of the season, facing off against Illinois State (17-10, 11-5 MVC) for a 6:30 p.m. (CT) tip-off at the CEFCU Arena Thursday night. The game will be available to stream on ESPN+ with live stats on UICFlames.com.

SCOUTING ILLINOIS STATE
 
  • This will be the 26th time the Flames and the Redbirds are set to battle it out on the basketball court. Illinois State holds an overall lead in the series, 22-4.
  • In their last meeting, the Redbirds outlasted the Flames at Credit Union 1 Arena on Jan. 19, 74-66. Senior Ky Dempsey-Toney (Franklin, N.J./Franklin) led the Flames in scoring with 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds and posted a pair of blocks. Senior Arin Freeman (Little Rock, Ark./North Little Rock/Central Carolina) scored 14 points and senior Makiyah Williams (Chicago, Ill./Trinity/Marquette) netted 12 points.
  • The Redbirds are in search of a return to the win column after their three-game winning streak was snapped Sunday afternoon, falling to Bradley (11-16 MVC, 5-11 MVC) in a 70-65 road defeat in Peoria, Ill. Sophomore Shannon Dowell had a strong for the Redbirds in the game, scoring 19 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in 36 minutes of play.
  • The Redbirds remain the most accurate team on offense, securing a conference-leading 47.6 field goal percentage.
 
LAST GAME RECAP – VS. EVANSVILLE
 
  • The Flames completed the weekend homestand 2-0 with a 71-54 victory over Evansville (6-21, 2-14 MVC) in UIC's annual Play4Kay game Sunday afternoon at Credit Union 1 Arena.
  • UIC was led in scoring by senior Danyel Middleton (Chicago, Ill/Bolingbrook/Marquette) with 15 points, three rebounds and a pair of assists.
  • Senior Krystyna Ellew (Chicago, Ill./Taft/Wisconsin) scored 14 points, sinking four three pointers.
  • Dempsey-Toney collected 10 points and five rebound in the victory.
FLAMES FACTS
 
  • Dempsey-Toney has been a key component to the Flames recent success, scoring 15.5 points and grabbing 9.5 rebounds in the past two games.
  • Third-year head coach Ashleen Bracey has posted a 49-46 record, one win away from the 50-win milestone.
  • Ellew remains one of the most accurate shooters in The Valley from beyond the arc. Sporting a 43.7 three-point percentage, Ellew is the third-most accurate three point shooter in the MVC.
  • The bench continues to be a consistent success for the Flames. Averaging 32.9 points per game, the Flames bench ranks second in the entire NCAA D I.
