Women’s Basketball Falls to Bradley Sunday Afternoon

The Flames drop to 4-5 in Missouri Valley Conference play.

PEORIA, Ill. – The UIC women's basketball team (9-11, 4-5 MVC) erased a 13-point deficit entering the fourth quarter Sunday afternoon, before ultimately falling short to Bradley (12-7, 5-3 MVC) in Missouri Valley Conference play, 73-63.

Senior Jessica Carrothers led the Flames in scoring with 16 points, four assists and four steals. Senior Crystal Ortiz netted 12 points and grabbed five rebounds in 31 minutes off the bench. Redshirt sophomore Jessica Coleman and sophomore TuTu Clayton reached scored 10 points apiece.

FLAMES FACTS
  • After scoring 16 points against the Braves, Carrothers is now 29 points away from reaching 2,000 career points during her time on both the NCAA and NAIA levels.
  • Clayton closes out the week averaging 15 points, five assists and 2.5 rebounds. The guard has scored in double figures in four of the past five games.
  • Ortiz has scored in double figures across three games this season for the Flames.

The Flames return to Credit Union 1 Arena next Saturday, Jan. 31 to take on Valparaiso (0-20, 0-9 MVC) at 2 p.m. (CT).
