CHICAGO – The Missouri Valley Conference announced its first weekly awards of the 2026 baseball season Tuesday morning with graduate student
Zack Millsap earning MVC Pitcher of the Week honors with a strong showing against Incarnate Word.
"It was a one-run game, and he (Millsap) came in and just slammed a door on any momentum Incarnate Word had," head coach
Sean McDermott said. "I can't be prouder of Zack, he's been through some nagging injuries and he's fought through that. He's definitely a UIC guy, through and through."
Millsap was lights-out on the mound Sunday afternoon in game two of the doubleheader against the Cardinals, entering the game at the seventh inning as the Flames remained ahead 3-2.
The Crete, Ill. native held Incarnate Word batters to a .100 batting average, facing 10 batters and having a pair of three-up, three-down innings.
The hurler finished the three innings allowing just one hit, walking a batter and striking out three. After the Flames scored six runs in the top of the ninth when Millsap earned his first save of the season with a swinging strikeout to the end the game.
Entering his third season at UIC, this is Millsap's first individual recognition since joining the team prior to the 2024 season.
