LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The UIC baseball team (6-15-1, 2-1 MVC) began its eight-game road trip on Wednesday, as the Flames traveled east to Indiana to take on Purdue (17-7, 5-4 B1G) for a non-conference match up. The Boilermakers held a two-game advantage in the all-time series coming in (14-12), and the Flames entered the game as winners of their last two games overall.
In a back-and-forth marathon of a weeknight game which contained three ties and three lead changes, the Boilermakers' offense took the lead for good with a six-spot in the bottom of the fifth. Despite being outhit by the Flames 16-14, Purdue would go on to win the game by a final score of 18-13.
UIC's offense was highlighted by
Ashton Kampa, who blasted two home runs on the day as two of his four hits, and drove in six runs to lead all Flames.
Jake Busson also homered on the day and drove in three.
Michael Vitellaro and
Mark Eddie each pitched an inning of scoreless relief on the evening, with the former scattering two Boilermaker hits.

The Flames will return to Missouri Valley Conference play this weekend, as they travel to Nashville, Tenn. to take on Belmont in a three-game series beginning Friday evening at Rose Park.
