Women’s Basketball Drops Overtime Thriller to Belmont on Senior Day

The Flames close out Missouri Valley Conference Play with the No. 7 seed at 9-11.

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (14-17, 9-11 MVC) found themselves in an overtime thriller against Belmont (20-11, 16-4 MVC) falling short 78-70 to close out Missouri Valley Conference play.

 The Flames locked in the No. 7 seed in the 2026 Credit Union 1 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Basketball Tournament next week, March 12-15 in Coralville, Iowa at the Xtream Arena.

Redshirt sophomore Julia Coleman led all scorers with 28 points and a collegiate-high 15 rebounds in the contest. Senior Jessica Carrothers scored 14 points and dished out six assists. Graduate student Crystal Ortiz scored 11 points, sinking three triples behind 25 minutes off the bench.

FLAMES FACTS
  • Today's performance was Coleman's team-leading eighth double double of the season.
  • Carrothers has led UIC in assists across 21 games this season.
  • This was Ortiz's sixth game in double figures, last reaching the mark against UNI on Feb. 28.
  • The team collected a total of 45 rebounds, third-highest mark of the season and the sixth time this season the Flames reached 40+ rebounds.
