Chicago, Ill. - Behind the 20/20 performance of freshman Lindsey Filkins, the UIC volleyball team won its second consecutive match on Friday as they toppled Butler 17-15, 15-6, 10-15, 15-12 at the Physical Education Building.

"It was a good win against a good team," UIC head coach Don August remarked after the match. "We wanted this one pretty bad. We're trying to put together a little mini-run heading into the conference tournament and we needed a win tonight to accomplish that."

With the win, UIC improves to 18-12 on the year and 5-6 in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference, which moves them into sole possession of fourth place as Wright State (10-15, 4-7 MCC) fell earlier this evening at Loyola. Butler drops to 16-10 on the season and 7-4 in the MCC.

Filkins paved the way for the UIC on Friday, finishing the night with a team-high 21 kills and 22 digs. She did receive a little help, though, as five Flames finished the contest with double-figure kill totals and just as many posted double-double outings. Sophomore Lara Clarkson tabbed 11 kills and a season-best 22 digs. Rookie Teaha Shepperd tallied 14 kills and 16 digs. Senior Jill Greer had a strong all-around effort with 12 kills, 12 digs, seven blocks and four services aces while Erica Anderson has the other double-double with 57 assists and 17 digs.

"We showed some flashes of being the team we were at the beginning of the season," commented August, whose team opened the season 12-2 before dropping 10 of its next 15 matches. "We played with a lot of intensity that we seemingly have lacked for a long time. But this was the first time in a long time that we had our full starting lineup in there and healthy."

Keely Norris led Butler as she totaled a match-high 25 kills, including seven in game three, which the Bulldogs won 15-10.

The Flames will look to close out the season with a win tomorrow as they battle Wright State for fourth place in the MCC at the Physical Education Building at 4:00 p.m.
