Chicago, Ill. - The UIC volleyball team fell prey to a trio of decisive runs by Loyola on Friday night as the Ramblers swept the Flames 15-7, 15-10, 15-8, at Alumni Gym.

"I thought we were competitive against a good team tonight," UIC Head Coach Don August remarked after the match. "And that is something we haven't done in a while. At times we were the best team on the floor tonight, but just not enough times to win the match."

In game one, UIC had the early momentum and led 7-6, but Loyola scored nine unanswered points to turn the Flames' advantage into a 15-6 Ramblers' triumph. Game two was almost the same as with the score knotted 9-9, Loyola went on a 6-1 rally to take the second frame 15-10. The third game saw UIC battle back from an early 6-3 deficit to close to within one at 8-7. Once again, though, Loyola picked up their game as they went on a 7-1 run to close out the match 15-8.

The Flames were led by freshman Teaha Shepperd and Lindsey Filkins as Shepperd finished the night with 11 kills and six digs while fellow rookie Filkins added 12 kills and six digs. Senior Erica Anderson, who had missed UIC's last two matches with a stress fracture in her foot, returned to notch 30 assists and eight digs.

Sarah Poglits paced Loyola, which has now won its last nine meetings with UIC, with 11 kills, including six in game two. She also chipped in with seven digs. Kelly Price tabbed nine kills and 14 digs and two blocks in the Ramblers three-game triumph.

With the loss, UIC, which is now 3-9 in its last 12 matches, falls to 15-12 on the season and 4-6 in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference. Loyola, meanwhile, stays tied with UW-Milwaukee for first place in the league with a 9-1 record while improving to 17-8 overall on the year.

August's crew is back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 7, as they travel across town to take on Chicago State at 7:00 p.m.
