Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's basketball team dropped its exhibition opener versus Odyssey Wednesday night at the UIC Pavilion, 75-68. Three Flames scored in double digits with senior Chrissy Dizon posting a double double on the night.
Odyssey put the first points on the board, taking a 5-0 lead early in the game. Odyssey began to pull away from the Flames, building a 12-point advantage until UIC began to chip away at the score.
On a jumper by junior Kelly True, the Flames got within three points (22-19) with 9:40 left in the half.
Odyssey then went on 10-0 run to lead UIC by 13 and owned a 10-point lead at the half, 45-35.
Odyssey's Katie O'Grady extended the lead in the second half with a jumper, but junior Jacquay Holmes hit a three to spark the Flames. UIC then went on a 4-0 run with 10:18 left in regulation to cut the lead to within six points (57-51), but Odyssey racked up eight unanswered points and went on to clinch the 75-68 win over the Flames.
UIC was led by Dizon with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
The Flames were also paced by junior Krystal Hugelier's team-high 18 points with the guard adding six rebounds. Holmes pitched in 12 points and three steals on the night.
Odyssey's Amy Herig-Tanny led the team with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
UIC will host the Chicago Challengers next Wednesday, November 8th at 6:00 p.m. in an exhibition game at the UIC Pavilion. The Flames will start regular-season action on Friday, November 18th on the road versus Bradley.
