Chicago, Ill. - UIC volleyball (10-8, 3-3) handed Butler (9-9, 3-4) a five-game loss (30-26, 30-22, 24-30, 15-30, 15-8) on Wednesday at the Flames Athletic Center. Freshman Epiphany Davis powered the Flames with a team-high .308 attack percentage, while also adding a season-best 14 kills against the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Katerina Hanackova picked up her ninth double-double on the season with 12 kills and 14 digs. Junior Christin Hunt owned a team-best 15 kills and added three blocks on the night.
Freshman Taylor Szatkowski notched a season- and team-high 21 digs. Senior Amanda Kenny contributed 11 kills and eight digs against the Horizon League foe.
Porshia Allen led Butler with 25 kills and 17 digs. Jessica Wolfe added 11 kills and owned a team-high 23 digs. Michelle DeGeeter totaled 20 kills and 10 digs, while also pacing the team at the net with six blocks.
UIC posted a .333 attack percentage in game one with 17 kills. Leading 20-17 late in the frame, Butler tied it up three times before the Flames sparked an 8-3 run to take a 1-0 advantage early in the match (30-26).
Davis led the charge in game two with six kills and a perfect attack percentage. UIC continued its momentum, only allowing Butler to knot it at 8-8 before drilling home the 30-22 win.
The Bulldogs answered after the break with the first four points in game three. UIC got within three on several occasions, but Butler pushed ahead to close the deficit to one game (30-24).
Butler continued to produce offensively, sending the match into a fifth showdown. The Bulldogs totaled 14 kills and posted a .278 offensive clip in game four for the 30-15 win.
The Flames regrouped and came on strong in the final 15 points. Butler tied it at 2-2 early, but UIC expanded the gap to clinch the match victory (15-8).
The Flames travel to Ohio to face Cleveland State and Youngstown State this weekend. UIC battles the Vikings on Friday, Oct. 5 at 6:00 p.m., followed by a 1:00 p.m. matchup against the Penguins on Saturday, Oct. 6.
