Chicago, Ill. - Despite falling in game one, the UIC volleyball team (9-7, 2-2) bounced back to drop crosstown rival Loyola, 3-1 (18-30, 30-26, 30-21, 32-30), on Friday night at the Flames Athletic Center. Four UIC players recorded double-digit kill matches with sophomore Lana Lobdell leading the pack with 15.
Lobdell and freshman Epiphany Davis each tabbed a team-high four blocks. Junior Christin Hunt owned a match-high .382 attack percentage with 14 kills.
Sophomore Katerina Hanackova notched her eighth season double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs. Freshman setter Dana Van Syckle picked up a season-high 18 digs, while also leading the team with two service aces. Freshman Taylor Szatkowski totaled a team-high 19 digs.
Sarah Singer paced the Ramblers with 17 kills and 22 digs. Keily Zins owned a team-high .238 attack percentage with 16 kills and 11 digs against the Flames.
Loyola jumped out to an early 9-4 lead in game one. UIC cut the deficit to three points halfway through the frame (17-14), but the Ramblers sparked a 13-4 run to clinch game one (30-18). Loyola totaled 17 kills and owned a .316 offensive clip in the opening game.
Tied at 4-4 in game two, the Flames posted an 8-3 run to double their advantage (12-7). Loyola threatened and got within one point late in the game, but UIC notched consecutive kills to knot it up at 1-1 (30-26).
The Flames gained a 2-1 lead after holding Loyola to a .000 attack percentage in game three. UIC forced Loyola to commit nine errors. The Flames totaled 16 kills and posted a .268 offensive clip for the game three win (30-21).
Game four remained tight until the Flames recorded a 5-1 run to own a four-point lead (14-10). Loyola tied the game at 30-30 late in the frame, but UIC picked up the next two points for the match victory (32-30).
UIC continues a home court advantage next week as they host Wright State on Tuesday, Oct. 2 and Butler on Wednesday, Oct. 3. Both matches kick off at 7:00 p.m. at the Flames Athletic Center.
