Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score
Milwaukee, Wis.- The UIC baseball team split a doubleheader with Milwaukee at Henry Aaron Field on Friday, falling 6-3 in the opener before winning a 7-3 decision in the finale.
The Flames moved to 25-19 overall and 12-6 in Horizon League play, while the Panthers went to 18-32 and 8-13 in league games.
Jake Carr doubled twice and drove in three runs during the twinbill.
Game 2: UIC 7, Milwaukee 3
The Flames scored twice in the first inning to build an early lead that they would never relinquish in a 7-3 victory over the Panthers in Friday's nightcap.
Carr and Kevin Coddington drove in two runs apiece.
UIC created two-out offensive damage to open the scoring in the first. After Carr reached on an error and Brett Schaefer singled, Coddington stung a base hit to center that drove in a pair of runs and put the Flames ahead quickly.
Milwaukee cut its deficit in half with a run in the bottom of the first, but the Flames answered with three runs in the third. Carr crushed a double that plated two runs, and three batters later Rafael Garcia drove him home on a single.
The Flames tallied runs in the sixth and eighth innings on RBI singles off the bats of Andy Leonard and Steve McGuiggan.
Don Phillis earned his fifth win of the year with three innings of relief, coming on with two outs and the bases loaded in the fifth and inducing a rally-killing groundout.
Game 1: Milwaukee 6, UIC 3
Milwaukee scored five times with two outs in the seventh to break open a one-run game and defeat UIC, 6-3, in Friday's opener.
The game was a pitchers' duel between UIC's Derrick Miramontes and Milwaukee's Andy Hetebrueg until the fateful seventh frame.
With a man aboard and two away, five straight Panther batters reached base, a string capped by three consecutive RBI hits. Shawn Wozniak's two-run single and Shaun Wegner's two-run double proved to be daggers in what had been a solid start by Miramontes, who had allowed just a fourth-inning sacrifice fly prior to the seventh.
The Flames did not score until the eighth, when Carr and Schaefer hit back-to-back RBI singles.
UIC had the tying run on deck in the top of the ninth, but reliever Adam Ferrell struck out McGuiggan to end the game.
