Women's Tennis Drops 6-1 Decision at Marquette

MILWAUKEE- The UIC women's tennis team (0-1) opened up its spring dual season Friday afternoon with a 6-1 loss against Marquette (3-0) at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

Jackie Altansarnai represented the only match victory for the Flames, defeating Silvia Ambrosio, 7-5, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot.

Ann-Sophie Hahn fell 7-5, 6-1 to Erin Gebes at No. 2, while Oana Manole was defeated by Diana Tokar, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3 to round out the top three positions.

Paula Tormos Sanchez bested Melika LeBlanc, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 4 and Bianca Zuzu fell to Aleeza Kanner, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5. In her first collegiate dual match, freshman Rachel Le Comber was narrowly beaten by Courtney Hebard, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 6.

In doubles, Hahn combined with Leblanc as the duo dropped a 6-2 decision against Diana Tokar and Leoni Daems. Altansarnai and Zuzu also fell 6-2 against the combination of Sanchez and Kanner.

UIC will head to Ohio next weekend to take on Bowling Green on Saturday (Feb. 6) at 1:30 p.m. CT at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
