Mary Dailey Resigns as Women's Tennis Coach

Aug. 14, 2001

Chicago, Ill. - Mary Dailey announced her resignation as the University of Illinois at Chicago women's tennis coach today, citing personal reasons.

"I am very thankful for the opportunity to work with such a great group of women at UIC," Dailey said. "I feel fortunate to have worked with such a knowledgeable and enthusiastic support staff and such a caring and involved administration."

Dailey compiled a record of 25-22, including two Midwestern Collegiate Conference titles and two berths in the NCAA Tournament, in her two seasons as head coach. In both of those years, the women's tennis team claimed UIC academic team of the year honors.

"I am proud of my team for their accomplishments both in and out class and on and off the court," Dailey said. "I know they will continue to have great successes in life."

UIC Athletic Director Jim Schmidt said that Dailey's presence would be sorely missed.

"We're sad to see Mary go," Schmidt said. "The strides and accomplishments that the women's tennis team has made during her time here is a true testament to her ability as a coach.

"Mary was a great influence upon her athletes," Schmidt continued. "They were successful both and off the court, and we can only wish the same for Mary and her future."
