Chicago, Ill.- University of Illinois at Chicago sophomore Beatriz Cabrera (Malaga, Spain) was named the Horizon League Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Friday.
Cabrera's league award, her second of the season, marks the third straight week that a UIC women's tennis player has earned Athlete of the Week honors. Ayca Gumuscu won the award on February 25th, while Corey Steven earned the honor March 4th.
Cabrera went 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles action last weekend, spurring the Flames to three team wins in two days. Cabrera's wins extended her singles and doubles win streaks to ten on both sides.
UIC has won five consecutive dual matches and all three of their Horizon League contests, with Cabrera winning every one of her matches at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles with Corey Steven in those wins.
Cabrera was the season's first Horizon League Athlete of the Week, winning the honor on February 4th.
The Flames return to action this Saturday against Illinois in Champiagn, Ill. beginning at 11 a.m.
