Chicago, Ill.- The UIC baseball team scored three unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings to turn away upstart Trinity International, 7-5, at Les Miller Field on Wednesday night.
Jake Carr drove in two runs, while Ryan Schweikert went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Nick Rainwater came off the bench for an injured Micky Pingree to go 2-for-3 at the dish with an RBI and a run scored. Erik Whinery also went 2-for-3.
Andrew Davis picked up the win in relief, while Adam Worthington tossed the final three innings to earn his first save of the season.
UIC (18-13) fell behind after TIU (16-15) scored four times in the second inning, thanks to two UIC errors to cause three unearned runs.
The Flames battled back with a four-spot of their own in the bottom of the third, with two coming on Carr's triple to right field.
After Aaron Manes hit a solo shot off of Davis to lead off the fifth to put Trinity back up by one, the Flames tied the game in the sixth on a wild pitch that scored Whinery and went ahead on Rainwater's RBI single to right that brought in Ty Rubio.
UIC added some insurance in the seventh after Tyler Moore scored following two consecutive wild pitches.
Starter Peter Ifft, Davis and Worthington each fanned four hitters while only one free pass by UIC pitching was allowed during the entire game.
UIC will travel to Indianapolis to play Butler in a three-game series at Bulldog Park beginning this Friday at 2:00 p.m. Central.
