Flames Swim to Dominating Win Over Milwaukee

Six Men Win Two Events Each

11/9/2019 5:03:00 PM

UIC had two dominating wins over Milwaukee as the men's and women's teams each notched their first win of the season.

Cydney Liebenberg broke the school record in 1-meter diving.  She scored 308.25 to surpass the previous record by three-quarters of a point.  She came just 1.7 points away from breaking her own record on the 3-meter board.

Ashton Amerman, Poleena Kovalaske, and Lilly Culp joined Liebenberg as multiple event winners on the women's side.  Felix LaFortune, Hunter Crook, Kyle Lewarchick, Danny Sivak, Jacob Cunningham, and Ben Gabbey led the men with two wins each.

Making their first competitive appearance at Flames Natatorium, the men posted a final score of 213-87, and the women won by a 183-117 count.

"It was our third meet in eight days so we knew fatigue was going to be a factor.  Even with this, we asked the team to raise their level of racing and they responded well," Tim Loeffler said.

"Freshmen stepped up and had some big races.  A lot of the credit, though, has to go to our upperclassmen for setting the tone and mentoring them to be prepared for racing."
