CHICAGO – The UIC volleyball team will have six newcomers for the upcoming 2023 season, as announced by head coach
Justin Ingram Friday morning.
Celimar Hoyos
Libero / 5'6"/ Caguas, Puerto Rico
Head Coach
Justin Ingram: "We are very excited to announce the addition of Celi to our 2023 team. She is a very skilled libero with tremendous potential. Her defensive abilities will create lots of transition opportunities for our gym. Celi will continue our connection with Puerto Rico as she is originally from Caguas, PR."
Gabi Peter
Outside Hitter / Middle Blocker / 6'0"/ Gilbert, Illinois
Ingram: "Gabi is a versatile player who can play several positions along the net. Our expectation is for Gabi to be most productive from both pins. She is gaining a lot of experience with her club, Top Flight, and we are excited for the impacts she will make while at UIC."
Hannah Ditsworth
Middle Blocker / 6'2" / Bondurant, Iowa
Ingram: "Hannah is a gem and has a giant upside. She elevates and will likely be one of the highest players on the team. Hannah's ability to move laterally along with her added length will provide lots of benefits to our team in the middle position."
Za'Niya Boyles
Outside Hitter / 5'9"/ Columbia, South Carolina
Ingram: "We are very excited with the addition of Za'Niya to our UIC Flames Volleyball Team. She is a high-flying lefty who is effective from both pins. Her ability to elevate and attack with range as a lefty will add a new and valuable dimension to our team."
Tamara Kisic
Outside Hitter / 5'7"/ Belgrade, Serbia
Ingram: "Tamara is a very fast and powerful passing outside hitter. She is an effective attacker from both the left and right sides and has also played libero for her club team. Tamara will be a great addition due to her ability to perform so many skills well."
Mihaela Harizanova
Setter / 6'0"/ Sofia, Bulgaria
Ingram: "We are pleased with the addition of Michaela to our Flames Family. She is the starting setter for Bulgaria's U19 National Team and has lots of international experience playing volleyball. Michaela is a taller setter, nearing 6 feet tall, and will add to our ability to touch and block balls within her setting position while at the net."
2023 marks UIC's second season as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference. The Flames begin the season with an exhibition at perennial power Wisconsin on Aug. 19.
