Women’s Golf Tees off 2023 Fall Schedule

The Flames will compete at the second annual Brittany Kelly Classic from Sept. 18-19

CHICAGO (Sept. 17, 2023) – The UIC women's golf program will open its 2023 fall season Sunday at the second annual Brittany Kelly Classic. The two-day event will be held at the The Players Club at Woodland Trails in Muncie, Ind.
 
BRITTANY KELLY CLASSIC
  • The Brittany Kelly Classic will feature 54 holes of competition. The course is a Par 72 and 6,182-yards long. The first two rounds will start at 8.30 a.m. ET Monday with a shotgun start, while the third round will take place Tuesday starting at 9 a.m. ET with a shotgun start.
  • UIC is one of 13 teams competing at the event. The Flames will be joined on the course by host Ball State, Cleveland State, Dayton, Eastern Michigan, IUPUI, Loyola, Ohio, Purdue Fort Wayne, UNC Asheville, Valparaiso, Western Illinois and Western Michigan.
  • The two-day event is named in honor of Brittany Kelly, a former Ball State women's golfer who passed away in Aug. 2021.

2023 FALL SCHEDULE
  • The Flames are scheduled to compete in five events throughout the 2023 fall season.
  • Following the Brittany Kelly Invitational, UIC will head to Wolcott, Colo. for the Golfweek Red Sky Classic (Sept. 25-27).
  • The next week UIC will travel to Indianapolis for the Butler Fall Invitational (Oct. 2-3).
  • The program will then head to Libertyville, Ill. for its only competition in the state of Illinois this fall. The team will compete at the Loyola Parkinson Invitational from Oct. 9-10.
  • UIC concludes its fall portion of the schedule Oct. 16-17 at the Chippewa Invitational in Birmingham, Mich.
     
ANGELA RAYHILL ERA STARTS AT UIC
  • Angela Rayhill was named UIC's women's golf head coach in July. She is the third head coach in program history.
  • Rayhill comes to UIC from Chicago State, where she has led the Cougars' women's golf program since 2015.
  • During her more than eight seasons at the helm at Chicago State, Rayhill led the Cougars to multiple top-five finishes at the PGA Works Collegiate Championships (formerly the PGA Minority Championship), including a second-place finish in 2016 and a third-place finish in in 2017.
  • Prior to her arrival at CSU in February 2015, she was an assistant women's golf coach at Chicago's North Park University during the 2012-13 school year and was a former assistant golf professional at the Midlothian Country Club in Midlothian, Ill. 
A NEW HOME FOR THE FLAMES
  • Harborside International Golf Center, one of the preeminent public golf courses in Illinois, became the home of the UIC women's golf program at the start of the 2023-24 season. 
  • Harborside is home to two challenging links courses; the Port Course and the Starboard Course. The Port Court has been named as Chicago's top public course while the Starboard Course provides a similar links golf experience to its sister course and was named a Top 10 Public Course in Illinois by Golfweek in 2022.
  • Harborside's practice facility was recognized by the Golf Range Association of America (GRAA) as a Top 50 Public Range in 2022.
2022-23 SEASON RECAP
  • 2022-23 marked the program's first season as members of the Missouri Valley Conference.
  • Following the season the MVC named Megan Tang (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's) to its All-Conference Team and Dasa Urbankova (Brno, Czech Republic/Menlo College) to the All-Tournament Team.
  • Urbankova and Tang were also named to MVC Scholar-Athlete teams, while three Flames were recognized as 2022-23 WGCA All-American Scholars for their success in the classroom.
